Further Principles of Restoration

I have a dilemma - the list of things that have jumped out at me from the Jeremiah chapters concerning the things that God is restoring to his people, is getting bigger. And my task list for today is continually getting bigger and has left me with little time for blogging. So I will just note down a couple and come up with some more tomorrow.

‘I will be the God of all the clans of Israel’  (Jeremiah 31:1) - I believe that Jesus is returning for one united church - a … Continue reading Further Principles of Restoration...

A Week End Quote

I am setting off this morning down to Swansea where I will be preaching in our related church there. Really looking forward to that! Going with the whole family - and with four young children, it is pandemonium! So I shall have to carry on with the principles of restoration, on Monday. To be going on with, I thought I’d leave you with a quote for the weekend (and perhaps try to make this a regular feature). Nothing too deep for this week:

An apple a day, if well aimed, keeps the doctor …

More Principles of Restoration

Continuing today with my reflections on Jeremiah 30-31 and how they spoke to me of some of the principles and truths that I believe God has been restoring to his church:

Devourer devoured/enemies into exile (30:16) - we have victory over all our enemies; the Christian life does not need to be characterised by struggle and defeat; we are called and enabled to live a victorious Christian lifeHealth/Healing (30:17) - although truths about healing had already been restored to the church in earlier years, faith in God for miracle has … Continue reading More Principles of Restoration...

Principles of Restoration

Reading through Jeremiah recently, I came to the great chapters about God’s promise to restore his people (Chps. 30 & 31) and I found myself reflecting on the kind of things that I believe God has been restoring to his church over the last 30-40 years. Many of you, like me, have been a part of what has been called ‘the restorationist movement’ but of course the principles God has been restoring are not limited to any one ‘movement’ or ‘grouping’ of God’s people. My commitment, anyway, is not to a …

More on The Secret Place

As promised, I am continuing with some thoughts on Psalm 91, and specifically on how we can learn to stay in the secret place. Of course, you can’t reduce such a spiritual lesson to a list of ‘how to’ steps. Arthur Wallis once wrote that the answer to every how to question of the spiritual life is - the Holy Spirit. If we can learn everything from a simple list then there would be no need for the fellowship of the Spirit - he wants us to learn within an ongoing relationship …

Living in the Secret Place - Psalm 91

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. (Ps.91:1, AV)

I’ve been really blessed as I was reading Psalm 91, and particularly by the King James version (not a version that I often use). The Psalm is filled with great promises about ‘no harm will befall you’ - e.g no fowler’s snare, deadly pestilence, a 1,000 will fall at your side etc. (you know the one - if you don’t, read it; it’s great!). But it is important to note that …
