Planning for Growth

Had a meeting today with other elders from the Northern region, overseeing churches that are part of the family of churches who relate to Keri Jones.

We had a great time; it is really a privilege to serve alongside and enjoy friendship with such quality men. Recently, God spoke to me about ‘planning now for what you expect in the future,’ so in our discussions together we talked about important things to consider when planning for growth; we just all shared insights we had gleaned over the years. I’m including some of them in the list below:

  • Having faith which is shown by your actions and not just words - so if you believe God has said you are going to grow by a hundred in the next 12 months, for example, then that will have to be shown by what you do about it. (We have recently put out more chairs on a Sunday morning, believing that they are going to be filled - and they are!)
  • Train people who have your DNA - same vision, values and revelation as you, though different personalities
  • Make sure there are administrative structures for growth in place
  • Make sure there are pastoral structures for growth in place
  • Make sure you deliver what you promise - and if you can’t then that should be explained carefully to the church so that they are not left guessing, and disappointed
  • There must be unity and agreement among all the leaders
  • The main leader must give time to discipling leaders

There are probably many more but this is where our conversations took us today. I am just glad to be among people who are expecting growth and planning for growth. Are there any more insights out there?
