Matthew Ling’s Visit to Huddersfield

matthew_in_norway1We were glad to have Matthew Ling with us in the church here in Huddersfield on Sunday. He brought an excellent word about ‘Staying Near The River’ and drew out the image that Scripture uses of trees being representative of people, of us. That is certainly going to be a hit with somone who calls his blog, Planted By Water. But I wish I had heard Matthew speaking before I did my little series on ‘trees’ to start this blog off! He had some great insights into Scripture. I particularly liked his suggestion about Jesus’ healing of the blind man that didn’t seem to work first time round. Remember that he said that he saw what looked like trees walking, until Jesus completed the healing. Matthew’s suggestion was that he was actually being given an insight into spiritual truth in the process of being healed. Love it!! Wish I’d thought of it!!

We are like trees, to be rooted in God, sustained nourished by Word and Spirit, a planting of the Lord (planted, not wandering - another excellent point from Matthew) and a source of life, blessing and healing to the world. Brilliant, Matthew. Thank you. What a prophet of God!!

Next week we have Tony Ling with us - we’re really being spoiled!
