It was my pleasure and privilege to be preaching at King’s Church Loughborough on Sunday. It was great to catch up with my friends, Mike and Heather Hughes (in picture), and their children, Megan and Ellie. Mike makes a great ‘real’ fire; he settles me down in front of it with a lovely cup of coffee and then drags me out to speak at another meeting!! Typical! But it was good to see people I’d not seen for a while, …

A couple of weeks ago I was with my fellow elders from our related churches in the North and my friend Richard Anniss, who leads the church in Manchester (visit his blog here), shared about the importance of being fruitful in our spiritual life and making sure that all we did contributed to such fruitfulness. Since then I have found myself turning this thought over in my mind and considering the roots that determine our fruitfulness. …

My apologies for the rather occasional and insubstantial content of my blog this week, due to other demands on my time. I may as well finish this week though in similar vein. The following was taken from The Times a couple of weeks ago, in relation to the sorry episode of Charles Kennedy’s resignation as leader of the Liberal Democrats due to his alcoholism. For those who were following the mild debate on Law here just a couple of weeks ago, it may interest you to know that I have begun doing some fresh study on this subject - the results of which I hope to post before too long! But I thought any who objected to my use of the word ‘inadequate’ for the Law, may be interested in something I read from Fee and Stuart (in How to Read the Bible for All its Worth - a useful little book that I would …

We were really glad to have Terence (’T') and Beth Erlenbach with us in Huddersfield on Sunday. Great to have people who so clearly demonstrate faith and servanthood. T brought his word to us that I know God has given him such full revelation on and that has blessed the church in Cardiff and elsewhere - the word about the ‘heart of God’s house.’ What was exceptional was that he didn’t just encourage us all to serve in the church, to get stuck in and volunteer for certain tasks. He imparted something …

Back at last. Having trouble with my PC, so glad to be back blogging. Had a great time with students last week, rejoicing that God has set us free from Religion (including a so-called Judeo-Christian, Law-based one!! - just a touch provocative!) and brought us into a relationship with himself by the Holy Spirit and that brings life!! I quoted from an interesting new book called The Bible and Other Faiths (by Ida Glaser, published by IVP). She comments on the call of Abraham out of his religious, polytheistic (believing …
