Ending the Week on a Light Note

My apologies for the rather occasional and insubstantial content of my blog this week, due to other demands on my time. I may as well finish this week though in similar vein. The following was taken from The Times a couple of weeks ago, in relation to the sorry episode of Charles Kennedy’s resignation as leader of the Liberal Democrats due to his alcoholism. I meant to post it then but never got round to it. It pointed out quite rightly that Kennedy was not the first MP to be linked with the mis-use of alcohol:

At a grand reception in Peru in the 60s, the then Labour Foreign Secretary, lurched up to a figure in a fetching purple frock, and asked her for a dance. She turned him down with this response: "First, you are drunk; second, this is not a waltz, it is the Peruvian national anthem; and third, I am not a woman, I am the Cardinal Archbishop of Lima!!
