Considering Culture and Playing Games in Cardiff
Good time with the students yesterday - we considered 2 of the biggies in terms of cultural trends - Consumerism and Celebrity Culture. What was especially interesting was considering whether the church is being affected by these trends. Today we get on to other things like the anti-hero trend, therapy culture, litigation culture and more. The point all the time is to consider how we avoid being carried along with the tide of these trends - and it starts with being aware of them, not over-reacting against them but making sure our values are being shaped by the Word and not the world - and also how we make connections with people who are living within this cultural environment. We want to be both radical disciples and relevant witnesses. We are being joined today by the Impact team from Southport so its going to be fairly packed!
So all the fine students are studying very hard - but I thought you might like to know what they do in their spare time - and what Jon has tried to get me hooked on. Try it here.

Really enjoyed your classes Trevor - thank you! Got me thinking! I managed to see a repeat of C4 programme on Christian fundamentalism this weekend - WOW! no wonder you got cross! I particularly liked the non-biased quote of the ‘daft theory of creationism’ - quality reporting! See you next month.

Thanks Trevor for an amazing two days. I really enjoyed your lectures. You presented consumerism in a way that really challenged my viewpoint. As a business graduate, I thought that I had a good knowledge of consumerism and the effects that it has on society. Through these past couple of days, you have really given me a lot to think about. Thank you!!
