The Appearance of Strength Is Not Enough
I was reading recently about the tragic death of King Saul (in 1 Chronicles 10) and noted how, when killed, he was ’stripped of his armour’ by his enemies; and I thought back to how he had offered his armour to David. He was the king at the time, the leader of God’s people, and he should have been going up against Goliath. He had all the appearance of strength with his armour but not the real faith to go up against the giant. Stripped of his armour he was found to be a weak man with a divided heart. Contrast David who rejected Sauls armour but who went up against Goliath with a naked faith, an unadorned strength of heart, a real, honest, simple and unquestioning confidence in his covenant-keeping God. The appearance of strength with macho charismatic posturing won’t slay any giants; only strength that comes from sincere faith like David’s will do that.

The story of David shows that without faith in God, you will be unable to kill people.

I was just reading the story of David and Golith in prepatition for a speech I must give in Public Speaking Class. The speech must be based on a children’s book. I alway like to reach people who don’t know the Lord or have back-slid. As I read the book I saw so many lessons and values that are easily over looked in what people would believe to be a children’s story. Not thinking of the stories true source. To get to the point. I agree with your point. That David defeated Goliath because of his pure faith in God and not his own ability. And King Saul did not have true faith in God to send a boy to do what he should have had the faith to do. David stood strong and RAN toward the battle line to meet Goliath. (Was Jesus not the Lion and the Lamb)I believe in God, I love God, I try everyday to run toward the battle with pure faith in God to lead me out because He will. I say this because i used to sit back in church and let others do the fighting that God intended me to do. I know of many more who are, how I use to be. I say to them now. “Stand up and have faith in your God so that you can defeat (kill) your Goliath(s) with their own huge sword. So other can see how great God is! For the love of God, run toward the battle be prepare to fight and the faith that God’s will be done.”
ty for reading this and God bless you.
